CPS Test Guide
- CPS (Clicks Per Second): Number of clicks per second, the standard metric for measuring click speed
- This test measures input frequency and intervals. It does not measure reaction time, physical input latency or gaming ability.
- Compare techniques in separate runs with the same mouse and duration. Record which technique you used; the counter cannot determine it automatically.
- Input devices and browser handling can change counts. Compare mouse, keyboard and touch results separately, using the same target and duration.

- Health Reminder: Avoid excessive practice and pay attention to hand health
What the CPS test measures
Click speed results depend on the device and the input method, so compare scores only when the setup is similar.
Mouse mode is most meaningful with a real mouse or trackpad. Mobile taps can be fun practice, but they are not the same as mouse CPS.
What unusual results can mean
Short or uneven intervals can reflect technique, device settings or browser event delivery. They do not by themselves diagnose hardware or identify a clicking technique.
Mouse, trackpad, and keyboard modes
Gaming mouse switches, laptop buttons, trackpads, and keyboard keys all behave differently. Compare scores using the same target and duration.
Browser and system limits
The page times pointer and key events delivered by the browser. Tab focus, background load, event throttling, and device drivers can affect counting.
Mobile tap limits
Touch results measure finger tapping on a screen, not mouse switch speed. Use an external mouse if you want a comparable CPS benchmark.

Common questions about click speed testing and techniques
What is a good CPS (Clicks Per Second) score?
There is no universal CPS grade. Compare completed timed runs with the same input type, target, duration and technique; this tool does not rate gaming ability.
What is jitter clicking?
Jitter clicking uses arm tension to produce repeated mouse-button presses. The resulting rate varies; this test records clicks rather than verifying the motion.
What is butterfly clicking?
Butterfly clicking alternates two fingers on one mouse button. Measure the resulting CPS and compare your own runs; the technique does not guarantee a doubled rate.
Does mouse type affect click speed?
Yes, different mice have different switch debounce times and actuation forces. Gaming mice are often optimized for faster clicks, but technique matters more than equipment.
Can high CPS damage my mouse?
While modern mice are designed for intensive use, techniques like jitter and butterfly clicking can accelerate switch wear. Standard mice are rated for millions of clicks.
